Public Awareness Youth Programs
Majsid As-Salaamah is actively engaged in outreach to young Muslims in central Ohio. The masjid undertakes religious based outreach programs on its own whereas it partners with external organizations such as the Buckeye Ranch and local law enforcement agencies for others. Masjid-As-Salaamah conducts workshops for young people on weekends and school breaks. Workshop topics are selected by the administration of Masjid As-Salaamah and are conducted jointly with other external organization as needed. The topics of discussion address how to successfully navigate the challenges faced by Muslim and Somali-American youth in Central Ohio.
The last two workshops covered Shisha/Hookah smoking prevention and police-youth relations/police ABCs respectively and were delivered in partnership with the Somali Outreach Program at the Buckeye Ranch. All workshops are facilitated by subject matter experts and last 1-2 hours.
We have very important workshops coming up in 2017, such as gang involvement prevention, financial literacy, peer pressure, and social isolation. Please stay tuned for more announcements.
Warning to Our Youth!
As a matter of religious conviction and belief, Masjid As-Salaamah’s position towards extremist groups such as Al-Qaeda, Al-Shabaab, ISIS (ISIL), and other groups with similar religious ideologies has been very clear: that they are outcasts, deviants, and Takfiris who follow in part the beliefs of the Khawaarij (renegades), an ancient sect that was known for murdering the other Muslims after calling them apostates without any Islamic due process. Furthermore, we believe their violent acts, such as assassinations, kidnappings, hijackings, suicide bombings, violence against governments and civilians are both illegal and contrary to correct Islamic beliefs and teachings. A Takfiri (from the Arabic word تكفيري) is a Muslim who practices Takfir, which is accusing another Muslim of apostasy or disbelief.
